The slow part of bonded bulk trade is the money-cargo exchange — letter-of-credit document review takes 3–5 days, and either cargo arrives before cash or cash arrives while the bill of lading stalls. e-CNY smart contracts can encode "arrival plus inspection" as programmable conditions; once met, funds release in the same second and title moves from seller to buyer at once.

In practice the buyer's prepaid limit is locked in the contract; when the vessel berths and the inspection report (SGS/CCIC) hash lands on-chain, the contract auto-verifies and pays — no manual document check. Settlement that took T+3 to T+5 now closes in the same second.

This lands squarely on the high-attention structure of offshore transshipment (iron rule F9): cleanest when one deal runs at one bank, one currency. e-CNY is one currency by nature, removing the 5-business-day reporting friction of cross-bank or cross-currency flows.

For SNSUC's seven transshipment grades, settlement shrinks from "open LC — present docs — negotiate" to "settle on arrival", cutting both in-transit capital and FX exposure together.
