The cleanest line on the FX board today is the euro softening on its own. EUR/CNY fell to 7.4284, down 0.1787 on the day, while EUR/USD printed 1.1158, off 0.1253. Both crosses weak at once tells you this is the euro under pressure, not a standalone CNY or USD move.
For crude-arbitrage desks, the euro-settled leg of the book needs a repricing. In a back-to-back structure that buys in euros and sells title in dollars, a weaker euro lifts the CNY cost on the procurement side and trims the margin of the whole trade. Dropping the dollar leg and clearing euros directly through CIPS cuts the FX friction, and an NDF can lock the euro exposure.
USD/CNY also printed 6.6558, down 0.0631, with the renminbi broadly firm. Among Asian currencies the euro is the weakest leg today, and the currency-mismatch ledger needs a fresh pass.
